The world and european champions have been knocked out of the Olympics. Spain were were favourites to win this competition considering the aboundance of talent in the spanish sqaud. They lost their first match against Japan by a loan goal and the second to the under rated Hundurans. However they have failed to leave up to expectations in the London 2012 Olympics. They failed to score a single goal in 180 minutes.
Spain's Juan Mata suffered defeat
Just like against Japan, Spain went down in the first half thanks to a cross. Spain failed to clear their lines, and a left-sided delivery allowed New England Revolution centre forward Jerry Bengston to nod past David de Gea (Manchester United) in the 7th minute. It was a wake up call that Spain completely failed to heed. They continued to be dominated in the centre by Honduras's players  and although they eventually did put some pressure on Jose Mendoza's goal, some good saves and good luck prevented them from finding the back of the net.
The second half was marked by some hilarious time wasting on Honduras's part, which annoyed Spain to the point that some players lost their cool. Athletic Bilbao's Iker Muniain almost resorted to blows after taking offence to Mendoza lying on the ground with a pretend injury (there were lots of these), but the passion the Spanish were clearly feeling didn't translate to results. They'll be going home after Wednesday's matches.
