AFON 2013: Super Eagles Face Mali As Burkina Faso Square up Against Ghana

The Super eagles of Nigeria yesterday defeated AFCON2013 favorites, the elephants of Cote D` Ivoire 2-1 in the quarter finals to progress to the semi-final where they will now face Mali. The energetic Emmanuel Emenike gave Nigeria the lead with a thunderous short from Mikel Obi`s short pass before the interval.
The elephants equalized before the interval from Cheik Tiote who nodded in from close rage after pouncing on Didier Drogba`s free-kick  Super Eagles coach was full of praise to his lads whom were before the match written off by even some Nigerians considering the caliber of stars which the Ivorians paraded. in his words "I thank my players for everything they did today. I hope we keep going to the final"
"Ivory Coast are the top team on the continent with lots of quality, so we tried to speed up and try to catch out players like Drogba and Yaya Toure.
"I'm glad my team is progressing in every game. There is great discipline in the team and I just hope we keep going that way.
"The boys showed character. When the Ivorians levelled we tried to defend and work out our tactics, and we scored again. Sunday came up with a beautiful, beautiful goal."

In the second semi-final match match between Togo and Burkina-Faso, the Burkina-babes had to wait until the second half of extra time when Petroipa lifted high to head into top corner. Thanks to the misjudgment by the Togolese goalie. They will now face the Black Stars of Ghana in the semi-final.

The semi-final has been adjudged to be a WAFU cup since it has all four teams from West Africa.
